Magical Golden Dawn

THE LESSONS OF A SEEKER

The Inner Guard helps you arise, takes you by the arm and leads you to a station in the North of the Temple where you stop and face the officer seated there. The Inner Guard says: "Master of Earth, it is the order of our Master of the Temple that you instruct this Seeker in the ways of the Element of Earth."

The Master of Earth arises, makes the symbol for the Element of Earth and says: "Welcome Seeker. I congratulate you on attaining the rank of 0 = 0. My station is in the North, the place of darkness, because of all the Elements, Earth is the grossest and therefore the darkest. The direction of North is assigned to the Element of Earth.

"The symbol of my office is the pentacle, or five-pointed star, drawn upon a circle of wood. The center of the pentacle is colored black to represent the Abyss. The top arm of the pentacle is painted white to represent the element of Spirit and the light and knowledge of the Divine to which we all aspire. The top right arm is painted blue to represent the Element of Water and the top left arm yellow to represent the element of Air. The bottom right arm is painted red to represent the Element of Fire and the bottom left arm green to represent the Element of Earth. The space around the pentacle is painted gray because it resides in both the darkness and the light.

"As you prepare for your initiation into the first degree, the rank of 1 = 10, you will be asked to make a replica of this pentacle to be used in your rituals and placed upon your spiritual altar as a representative of the Element of Earth.

"My primary duty is to care for the needs of this Temple building and all the things within it. This is a reminder that all of us need to first take care of our own Temple and all of the things within it. Then we may apply ourselves to our other duties.

"The secondary duty of my office is to purify the Temple with the Element of Earth. For this purpose I am entrusted with this platter of salt, the salt of which you have already tasted and which was used to purify you by removing from you all illness and any lack of abundance; and invoking the powers of Earth to help you attain robust health and abundance in your life.

"Do you agree to make a replica of the Element of Earth Pentacle, study the materials and practice the exercises provided by Magical Golden Dawn and others to prepare yourself for initiation into the rank of 1 = 10?"

Prompted by the Inner Guard, you answer in the affirmative.

Master of Earth: "It is well, Seeker. May the Divine guide you on your spiritual journey."

The Master of Earth is seated. The Inner Guard leads you to a station in the West of the Temple where you stop and face the officer seated there.

The Inner Guard says: "Master of Water, it is the order of our Master of the Temple that you instruct this Seeker in the ways of the Element of Water."

The Master of Water arises, makes the symbol for the Element of Water and says: "Welcome Seeker. I congratulate you on attaining the rank of 0 = 0. My station is in the West, the place of twilight and the setting Sun, because of all the Elements Water provides us the greatest gift of the Divine, the gift to love. Unfortunately, it is only in the twilight of our lives that most of us discover this great truth. Thus the direction of West is assigned to the Element of Water.

"The symbol of my office is the Cup of Unlimited Compassion emblematic of the emotions we all carry around with us like so much water. It serves as a constant reminder that we always have the choice to contain our emotions like water in a cup or let them go as water flowing ever into the sea of life.

"As you prepare for your initiation into the second degree, the rank of 2 = 9, you will be asked to create a replica of this Cup of Unlimited Compassion to be used in your rituals and placed upon your spiritual altar as a representative of the Element of Water.

"My primary duty is to care for the relationships and morale of the members of this Temple. This is a reminder that all of us need to first take care of our relationships and our own positive outlook on life. Then we may apply ourselves to our other duties.

"The secondary duty of my office is to purify the Temple with the Element of Water. For this purpose I am entrusted with the cup of water which you have already experienced and which was used to purify you by removing from you all hurtful emotions and all poisonous relationships; and invoke the powers of Water to help you attain helpful emotions and nurturing relationships."

"Do you agree to make a replica of the Cup of Unlimited Compassion, study the materials and practice the exercises provided by Magical Golden Dawn and others to prepare yourself for eventual initiation into the rank of 2 = 9?"

Prompted by the Inner Guard, you answer in the affirmative.

Master of Water: "It is well, Seeker. May the Divine guide you on your spiritual journey."

The Master of Air arises, makes the symbol for the Element of Air and says: "Welcome Seeker. I congratulate you on attaining the rank of 0 = 0. My station is in the East, the place of the dawning light, because of all the Elements, Air is the first to see the light. The direction of East is assigned to the Element of Air.

"The mundane symbol of my office is the two-edged sword emblematic of the two edges to all of our thoughts. It serves as a constant reminder to watch our thoughts and keep them ever pure.

"The esoteric symbol of my office of is the Book of Knowledge which is also called the Book of Light because light is knowledge just as darkness is ignorance. The Book of Knowledge sheds light on our path and keeps us ever-mindful of where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going.

"As you prepare for your initiation into the first degree, the rank of 1 = 10, you will be asked to keep a replica of this Book of Knowledge in the form of a magical journal or diary. In this Book of Knowledge you are to make a record of all your magical and spiritual practices to which you are to refer often for guidance and support. Guidance to let you know where you are going and support by measuring your advancement day by day, week by week and year by year. "My primary duty is to care for the present and future needs of the members of this Temple. This is a reminder that all of us need to first take care of our present obligations and prepare for the future. Then we may apply ourselves to our other duties.

"The secondary duty of my office is to purify the Temple with the Element of Air. For this purpose I am entrusted with this hand-held fan which you have already experienced and which was used to purify you by removing from you all negative attitudes, restricting beliefs, impure thoughts and worthless ideas; and to invoke the powers of Air to help you attain positive attitudes, freeing beliefs, pure thoughts and ideas of great value.

The Master of Fire arises, makes the symbol for the Element of Fire and says: "Welcome Seeker. I congratulate you on attaining the rank of 0 = 0. My station is in the South, the place of the noon-day Sun, because of all the Elements Fire is the hottest and most passionate. The direction of South is assigned to the Element of Fire.

"The symbol of my office is the magic wand emblematic of the willpower it requires to follow the spiritual path of a Seeker in this mundane world of ours. It serves as a constant reminder to watch our intentions and passions and keep them ever pure.

"As you prepare for your initiation into the fourth degree, the rank of 4 = 7, you will be asked to make your own Wand of Mercy
as a symbol of your mastery of the mundane elements and as a sign of your authority to manage your own Temple. This wand you will keep on your spiritual altar as a representative of the Element of Fire.

"My primary duty is to mediate the passionate concerns of the members of this Temple. This is a reminder that all of us need to find that point of balance between all passions which is acceptable to others. For it is only by controlling our passions that we are free to seek true knowledge of the Divine.

"The secondary duty of my office is to purify the Temple with the Element of Fire. For this purpose I am entrusted with this hand-held incense censor which you have already experienced and which was used to purify you by removing from you all wrongful intentions, misdirected passions, and all career problems;and to invoke the powers of Fire to help you attain beneficial intentions loving passions and a resolution of all problems with your career."

"As you work your way through the study materials for each degree you will learn the basic tools for the art and science of divination. You will need to learn three of the seven divination arts used by Magical Golden Dawn. These seven divination arts are: astrology, geomancy, numerology, oracle, palm reading, runes and tarot.

"Do you agree to learn more about these divination arts as you advance step by step to the rank of 4 = 7?"
